Inspirational Cocktails on a Grand Scale
We asked top UK bartenders Amanda Humphrey and Ago Perrone to share the inspiration behind their grandest cocktail creations.
Amanda Humphrey, renowned bar manager of 5 Hertford Street, took us back in time through Courvoisier’s history with her cocktail Exile to Elba, whilst legendary Connaught Bar head bartender, Ago Perrone, invited us on an extraordinary journey with his Courvoisier Bohemian Rhapsody cocktail…
“To create Exile to Elba, I went back over two centuries to a time when Napoleon’s dining and drinking experiences were on an obscenely large scale, with beautiful silverware and rare spices. The spice notes of the Chinato work with the Perique liqueur and marry perfectly with Courvoisier Exclusif. This drink should be served alongside a beef fillet flambéed with Courvoisier XO , saffron syrup and Griottines cherry juice, complemented with a glass of XO.”
“To enhance the ginger-roasted and coffee flavours of Courvoisier Exclusif, I have combined the apricot and plum notes of the wine with the zestiness of mandarin juice and the spicy and dry notes of hibiscus ginger soda. The passion fruit adds smoothness and a silky sensation, the forgotten spices of the tonka bean bring out the vanilla notes, and the cinnamon heightens the spiciness of Courvoisier. Combined with exotic presentation in the copper punchbowl, this all creates a memorable and sensory experience for customers.”
