Spirit of Punch Competition 2011
This Summer saw the second Courvoisier Spirit of Punch Competition staged at Imbibe Live 2011. Punch was made, drunk & judged (in that order) and good times were had.
For the second year running, 6 teams were chosen as finalists from across the UK to compete for the coveted title of ‘Courvoisier’s Spirit of Punch Winner 2011’.
The finalists each presented a new and unique punch recipe in a creative and revolutionary fashion to a panel of leading industry representatives – including legendary drink historian and author David Wondrich.
After two incredibly close heats, the finalists were whittled down to Purl from London and Raoul’s from Oxford. Both impressed the judges with beautifully made punches and a keen sense of history. But the Courvoisier Spirit of Punch trophy is sadly only big enough for one team to cherish and on the day it was Purl who triumphed with their punch ‘The Sphere of Influence’ which featured a ball of ice the size of a cannon ball.
Purl win the title and an all expenses paid trip to Jarnac, the home of Courvoisier to stay at the luxurious Courvoisier Château where they will experience the distilleries, vineyards coopers and ageing cellars that all combine to create the UK’s No 1 Cognac.
